--------------------------------------------------------------------
- Hardware and software requirements -
IBM or compatible PC with 256K RAM
Public Library/sa can be run from a hard or a floppy disk
(For instructions see below.)
DOS version 3.3 or later
--------------------------------------------------------------------
- Hard Disk Installation -
In the following examples, the directory name MYREALM is used and
the distribution disk is assumed to be in the A: drive. (If you are
creating a new directory, you may name it anything you wish, but the
name's length must not exceed eight characters.)
Note: This program is installable from your A: or B: floppy disk
drives, and it can be installed either to your hard disk or to
another floppy disk.
Option 1 - If you need to create a new directory.
If you have no other My Little Realm programs, you must first create
a new directory for Public Library. If you already have one or more
MLR products on your hard disk, even if they are just evaluation
versions, put Public Library in the same directory using the
instructions in Option 2.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Step | English directions | DOS commands
---------------------------------------------------------------
1 | go to root directory | CD\ <enter>
2 | make a new directory | MD MYREALM <enter>
3 | change to new directory | CD\MYREALM <enter>
4 | run installation program | A:INSTALL <enter>
---------------------------------------------------------------
Option 2 - Using an existing directory.
If you already have an MLR program on your hard disk, registered or
evaluation version, all you need to do is make your existing MLR
directory (called MYREALM, as an example) the currect directory and
run the installation program.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Step | English directions | DOS commands
---------------------------------------------------------------
1 | change to existing directory | CD\MYREALM <enter>
2 | run installation program | A:INSTALL <enter>
---------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------
- Floppy Drive Installation -
You can install your evaluation program to a floppy drive, as long
as it isn't the same drive that contains the distribution disk.
Assuming the distribution disk is in the A: drive, make the B:
drive your current drive and execute the install program like so:
---------------------------------------------------------------
Step | English directions | DOS commands
---------------------------------------------------------------
1 | make floppy drive current drive | B: <enter>
2 | run installation program | A:INSTALL <enter>
---------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------
- Running From A Floppy -
You can run Public Library from a floppy disk by making its disk
drive (assume it's in the A: drive for this example) the current
drive and typing PUBLIC at the DOS prompt, as shown here.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Step | English directions | DOS commands
---------------------------------------------------------------
1 | make floppy drive current drive | A: <enter>
2 | start Public Library | PUBLIC <enter>
---------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Printing your documentation.
To print your Public Library's documentation, go to your MYREALM
directory and direct the printout to the printer using the "> PRN"
option as shown below. Be sure your printer is on.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Step | English directions | DOS commands
---------------------------------------------------------------
1 | go to MYREALM directory | CD\MYREALM <enter>
2 | print documentation | TYPE PUBLIC.TXT > PRN <enter>
---------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Printing a registration form.
To print an order form, go to your MYREALM directory and direct the
printout to the printer using the "> PRN" option as shown below.
Be sure your printer is on.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Step | English directions | DOS commands
---------------------------------------------------------------
1 | go to MYREALM directory | CD\MYREALM <enter>
2 | print order form | TYPE REGISTER.TXT > PRN <enter>
---------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------

cataloging your personally owned books, tapes, cd's, etc.), Read
More (a program designed to encourage young readers), and Records
